What you'll learn

  • Explain earning
  • Connect work with value provided

Earning money usually means doing work, making something useful, or providing a service that helps someone. People can earn money from jobs, businesses, chores, or creative work.

Earning is different from borrowing. When money is borrowed, it must be paid back. When money is earned, it is received because value was provided.

Example

If someone walks a neighbor's dog and receives money, they earned it by providing a helpful service.

Value can look different

Some work solves a problem, some saves time, some creates something people want, and some helps keep a place safe or organized.
