What you'll learn

  • Identify fraud warning signs
  • Respond cautiously to pressure tactics

Financial scams often use urgency, secrecy, impersonation, or promises that sound too good to be true. The goal is to make someone act before checking facts.

Common warning signs

  • Guaranteed high returns with little or no risk.
  • Pressure to act immediately.
  • Requests to keep the opportunity secret.
  • Payment demanded by unusual methods.
  • Messages pretending to be a trusted person or institution.

Slow down

A legitimate financial decision usually allows time to verify details, read documents, and ask independent questions.

Example

A message saying an account will be closed unless you click a link immediately may be trying to create panic. Visiting the official website directly is safer than using the link.
